Huichol Beaded Mask
A brilliantly decorated huichol beaded mask by the indigenous huichol people of Jalisco. Guided by their imagination and spirituality, the huichol place colored beads one-by-one onto a mask mold. The image of the corn plant in the center of the forehead and the candles and peyote are all important parts of life in the Huichol culture and are often portrayed in their art. A natural adhesive mixture of beeswax and pine resin is used to adhere the beads to the mask.It is recommended to not place this mask in direct sunlight in order to prevent the wax from softening or drying out thus loosening the beads.
